The controversial novel Carnalavaca (Carnalavaca), the most scorching document defending Chilean mining nationalism, with the novel set in Chuquicamata (Carnalavaca) and a very clear relationship between the characters. All of his literature was critical of capitalism, of the lack of national vision regarding our northern problems, and of the indifference toward the human beings struggling in the middle of the desert, in the mining industries. And he did so not out of political attitude but out of a clear national consciousness.
