The Mr. and Mrs. George Gard De Sylva Collection of French Impressionist and Modern Paintings and Sculpture
La obra en pocas palabras
"The Mr. and Mrs. George Gard De Sylva Collection is one of the finest assemblages of French Impressionist paintings to be achieved in recent years. Were it not for the personal enthusiasm and taste of the donors it would have been impossible to bring together a collection of such high standards at a time when so many of the great pictures of this period had found a place in museums or private ownership. Mr. De Sylva's interest in painting was first aroused in the nineteen twenties by his friend Willard Huntington Wright, who introduced him to the canvases of Cezanne. In 1938 he acquired the first important picture, Renoir's 'Young Girl Bathing' and two drawings by Van Gogh, but the greater part was assembled after the war. At that time the De Sylvas had made a decision to form this collection, not for themselves, but for the people of Los Angeles." --Introduction
