Her Name Was Dolores

Autor: Pete Salgado

Número de Páginas: 272

The untold story of the iconic Jenni Rivera through the perspective of her former managers, Pete Salgado and Gabriel Vazquez and it will be the basis for a TV series that airs on Univision. This book will take us into the boiler room and offer a behind-the-scenes look into the strategies and moments that lead to national headlines. Pete Salgado was Jenn’s longstanding manager, considered by Jenn her fifth bother, he worked with her for nearly a decade, and helped negotiate many of her deals. She shared things with him she did not with others, and he came to know her in ways no one else did. The months before Jenni’s death were filled with betrayals and disappointments from those she most loved and trusted. Salgado addresses that and takes readers deep inside some cryptic tweets Jenni posted as well of answering very difficult questions such as: Did Chiquis have an affair with Jenni’s husband, Esteban? Who really was the person Jenni called El Pelón and tweeted about, and what did he mean to her? Was Jenni embroiled with the drug cartel? Did the notorious narco El Barbie mistreat her? Was she going to buy a plane? Was Jenni’s death truly an accident? This book describes...

Qu pas con el Evangelio? / Whatever Happened to the Gospel?

Qu pas con el Evangelio? / Whatever Happened to the Gospel?

Autor: R. T. Kendall

On Tuesday, when the Homeless Disappeared

On Tuesday, when the Homeless Disappeared

Autor: Marcos McPeek Villatoro

Número de Páginas: 88

Marcos McPeek Villatoro is not afraid to discuss mysteries, truths, or injustices. He has lived them. Poet and novelist, activist and radio personality, Villatoro writes poetry steeped in formalism, free verse, and his own Salvadoran syntax. This new collection is a memoir-in-poems telling how the world appears to a Latin American immigrant. His sense of humanity is intact. He has a family, a job, a life in the States. But the face of the Mayan hero Tekœn Um‡n hangs in his office, and he has "made clear all political positions by standing behind the wooden mask of a dead man." Villatoro is a writer with a keen political sensibility and a sense of humor besides. After confronting the reader with weighty issues, he pauses to have an encounter with a curandera in a cornfield; to speculate on a visit from extraterrestrials; and to pay tribute to his free-spirited, loose-living Uncle Jack, who "chewed forest mushrooms like a rabbit, / Then howled at a California night / While whispering querida above open thighs." Combining Borgean logic, the grit of Neruda, and a heady dose of Zen, Villatoro offers a primer on how to integrate a history of brutality and injustice with the privilege ...

While Part One was mostly farcical, the second half is more serious and philosophical about the theme of deception. Part Two of Don Quixote explores the concept of a character understanding that he is written about: an idea much explored in the 20th century.

La Morenita

La Morenita

Autor: Guadalupe Cordoba

Número de Páginas: 148

Success-it's something everyone hopes for but few have the fortitude and endurance necessary to achieve it, especially when confronted by one adversity after another. Lupe Cordoba knows that hard work and determination are the traits necessary to achieve success, and she used these strong personal qualities to rise to her position as a nationally acclaimed restaurateur. Cordoba seemed to encounter nothing but hardships and obstacles throughout her life, and in La Morenita: The Story of Lupe Cordoba, she candidly illustrates how her life developed from an idyllic childhood in a small Mexican town to the collapse of her marriage after succeeding in reaching America with her three small children. Perseverance and clever thinking carried Cordoba from the plight of sleeping in her car to opening her first restaurant to preparing hors d'oeuvres for a party for President Clinton. While conveying her talent for balancing romance, motherhood, and business in her life, Cordoba offers frank advice for others in her position and presents intimate portraits of her family and friends and the lives they endured to reach their current plateau. La Morenita delivers the compelling story of one...

Clint Eastwood. Made in Spain

Clint Eastwood. Made in Spain

Autor: Francisco Reyero

The making of Clint Eastwood as a worldwide star began with a journey into the unknown where his future fortune was hidden. 'I had no mentors other than fate', he tells us from the lofty heights of his now mega-stardom. When struggling to find work, in 1964 he took up the offer from a non-established Italian director to shoot a western in Spain. Sergio Leone had hoped to count on the likes of James Coburn, Charles Bronson or even Henry Fonda as his star. Financial restraints left him with Clint as the only choice. In spite of Clint's moderate success in the tv series Rawhide, he had always been side-lined by Hollywood's principal studios. Amazingly, after several chaotic weeks of Spanish shooting, fraut with un-paid bills and threats of closure, A Fistful of Dollars was canned. It was launched to great plaudits in Italy in September 1964. Over the next two years, he went back to Spain to make equally successful follow-ups: For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966). However, he still wasn't a worldwide success and only three years later, when the films were premiered in the USA, could he claim to have made it on the global stage. Fate had shone on him...

I Believed In Me

I Believed In Me

Autor: Ambrocio Magana

Número de Páginas: 164

I was born in a small town that at that time had about 300 inhabitants between children and adults ... I am a simple person, not very happy but not bitter. I am always willing to help those who need it; I do not wait for me to go begging, I offer help. I do not have much education I went to school for a short time. I finished sixth grade until I had 15 years old, but I remember that since I was young I liked to write stories, although I had never had the opportunity to publish them. I hope these stories reach your hearts and I also hope they like you. I want you enjoy them so much that you want to read them all... and other stories more. Remember that reading gives you education and culture. A part of these stories is true. A common occurrence for some people, whether by nature or custom, is to criticize or judge others and, often we do not realize that we make that person, or their family feel bad. Sometimes we can even physically or mentally harm them. Among the stories written here, one is true. It speaks of a little girl who has been criticized since her birth but has had the intelligence to turn criticism into positive energy. She has not stopped to listen to mediocre...

La decisión de votar. Homo economicus versus homo sociologicus

La decisión de votar. "Homo economicus" versus "homo sociologicus"

Pharmacological Slavery

Pharmacological Slavery

Autor: Vance Hodge

Número de Páginas: 180

Drug abuse and addiction are pervasive problems that have plagued humankind throughout the millenniacurrent times being no exception. Many personalized accounts of such activities fill the literature; while the biomedical community continually generates copious amounts of information on the subject. Yet, few authors have provided us with a philosophical examination of this dilemma. This book seeks to help fill this voidas it was written to examine the psychosocial forces at work underlying this problem. Coupled to a cursory coverage of some of the biological aspects of addiction, this text looks at the human condition and focuses upon the day-to-day challenges facing substance abusers, and their effects upon society. Calling upon the collective wisdom of our forefathers and foremothers, combined with our own introspection; solutions for breaking the chains of chemical bondage, and suggestions for living and staying clean are provided. Between our own common sense and that of those who came before us, and a careful [and honest] reflection on the subject, this book optimistically supplies us with the tools necessary for achieving this goalthat we might become the persons we were...

Cognición social y lenguaje

Cognición social y lenguaje

Autor: Pablo Quintanilla , Carla Mantilla , Paola Cépeda
