Flaran, fondée en 1151 dans la filiation de Morimond, est l’ancienne abbaye cistercienne la mieux conservée et la plus pittoresque de la Gascogne ; elle est située au cœur d’une des plus denses provinces cisterciennes puisqu’elle était entourée par une quinzaine d’autres maisons de moines blancs ; elle est au centre aussi des vieilles terres rurales d'Armagnac et de Fezensac qui fleurent bon la polyculture et la vigne : autant de raisons qui, après deux ans de « rodage » de ces Journées, ne pouvaient qu’imposer le grand thème de l’économie cistercienne.Certes, la bibliographie de ce thème est déjà immense ; mais il faut reconnaître que dans les études cisterciennes qui se multiplient, l’économie de l’Ordre vient bien après l'art et la spiritualité. Cependant, c’est parce que l’abondance des monographies est devenue telle que nous avons pensé qu’un effort de synthèse et une nouvelle discussion étaient nécessaires pour essayer de faire le point et de repartir, peut-être, à nouveaux frais.

La ricerca prende avvio dalle informazioni presenti nelle fonti documentarie nelle quali risultano citate, prima dell’anno 1200, persone di area milanese aventi cognome Vicecomes. Le informazioni sono raccolte e analizzate con tre diversi obiettivi: la ricostruzione genealogica, l’analisi della distribuzione territoriale e delle dinamiche di acquisizione e cessione di beni e diritti, la ripartizione tra i membri familiari delle relazioni di tradizione feudale e dei ruoli rivestiti nelle istituzioni comunali ed ecclesiastiche. I risultati ottenuti in relazione ai diversi obiettivi, analizzati congiuntamente, portano a delineare alcune tendenze nelle modalità di trasferimento tra le generazioni di beni, diritti, relazioni e ruoli pubblici e nella loro conseguente progressiva distribuzione tra i rami familiari. Le citazioni e alcuni passaggi presenti nelle fonti letterarie sono utilizzati per il riscontro dei risultati ottenuti dalle fonti documentarie e per chiarire il contesto nel quale, nel 1075 o poco prima, sarebbe stato introdotto a Milano il cognome Vicecomes. Alcune problematiche legate all’allargamento del campo d’indagine sono infine discusse.

En el año 1995 se celebró el VII Centenario de la batalla de Alarcos, acontecimiento bélico que tuvo lugar en 1195, entre un ejército castellano y otro almohade. Aunque la victoria fuese para los musulmanes, el hecho ha quedado como un hito militar significativo en la historiografía medieval española y ha sido objeto de muy diversos estudios. El hoy despoblado lugar de Alarcos, cuyo nombre ha quedado desde entonces vinculado a este hecho de armas, por lo que no cayó en el olvido tras su abandono, es un referente importante para la historia de la actual Ciudad Real, cuyos primeros pobladores debieron de proceder, en gran parte, de aquella. Todas estas circunstancias fueron motivos suficientes para considerar que el acontecimiento no podía pasar desapercibido. Por ello, la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha organizó un Congreso Internacional para conmemorarlo, que se celebró en Ciudad Real durante los días 3 al 6 de abril. Al mismo, asistieron un conjunto de expertos medievalistas, nacionales y extranjeros, cuyas ponencias y comunicaciones --de temática muy diversas pero referidas a la época-- quedan recogidas en este volumen que viene a configurar las Actas del Congreso.

Revisiting the Music of Medieval France

This book presents together a number of path-breaking essays on different aspects of medieval music in France written by Manuel Pedro Ferreira, who is well known for his work on the medieval cantigas and Iberian liturgical sources. The first essay is a tour-de-force of detective work: an odd E-flat in two 16th-century antiphoners leads to the identification of a Gregorian responsory as a Gallican version of a seventh-century Hispanic melody. This is the first of two volumes examining some "original features" of late medieval Italy compared to the European reality of the time (the second volume of this collection is curated by Federica Cengarle). On this subject, two conferences have been held, whose proceedings have been published. The first conference, held in October 2000, tried to offer an account, in an introductory section, of the long-term environmental frameworks within which the path of Italian society is inscribed: the rural landscape and the framework of urban settlements, without forgetting, in one and in the another case, the legacy of the Roman world.
